Why Use Our Compost Tea?
It’s very important to understand that every living thing, including mankind, is
directly connected to the soil.  Soil can also be very complicated.  One of the best
ways to understand soil is to understand a potted plant.

A pot is a closed system with control of what goes in and what comes out.  Most of
you have had a potted plant in need of repotting.  When the plant is pulled from the
pot the soil is a brick; a crumbly mass; or a wet lump.   Soil is made of solids, liquids
and gases.  The solids in soil are sand, silt and clay.  The liquids within the soil are
water plus soluble and insoluble materials.  The gases in the soil are the same as the
atmosphere with different concentrations.  There is one final important element of
soil that also contains solids, liquids and gasses – this is the organic materials or
biomass, alive or dead.

In potting soil, an inorganic solid is scraped from the land and mixed with composted
material and maybe some minerals such as vermiculite or perlite to produce a nice,
soft friable material well suited to root and plant growth.  Why then are we left with
a brick, dry crumbly mass or a wet lump in the pot?  The reasons are because the
organic materials are used up with nothing being returned to the pot and most of the
water used has a mineral salt that salts the soil, leaving a sterile white crust on the
soil surface and on the outside of the pot.

How many of you have seen the white crystals on the outside of a terra cotta pot?
This is salts. The potting soil becomes hard, encrusted and no longer soaks water in
well nor allows the water to percolate through.  Due to the loss of the organic
material and the life in the soil the soil therefore remains too dry or too wet and
slows the gas exchange that is needed by the roots. This is when problems can begin
- insects, disease, altered growth and possibly death of your plant.  So how do you
prevent this from happening?

The solution is a solution!  A solution called Compost Tea.  Our Compost Tea will
replace the organic material by becoming the soil solution.  Our Compost Tea will
open the clay allowing water to soak through, bind the sand, hold moisture, give
nutrients, increase gas exchange, keep the soil viable and allow the plant steady
growth.  There really is no substitution for a plant that needs repotting due to root
cramping, root pruning or poison soil.  It is one way to maintain good soil health
leading to good plant health.  It’s as easy as watering your plants!
Good soil health care is good plant health care which leads to good earth health care,
even within a small potted plant.  The simplest solution is the solution of Compost
Tea.  We all know that outside Mother Nature makes her own, but the potting soil
needs a return of organic material and it can not always be large doses of fertilizer
unless of course it’s organic. Inorganic fertilizers are made up of mineral salts that
eventually will sterilize the soil requiring a change.  However Compost tea will
stabilize the soil conditions and return them to a natural and healthy state, thus
providing for continual sustained healthy growth of potted plants.  It’s easy to use,
take our Compost Tea Bag, soak it in your watering can overnight and water your
plants as you normally do.  Try it and see the difference – your plants will love you
for it!
